Valkyrie - bronze pendant, inspired by the find from Uppland. In Norse mythology, a valkyrie (from Old Norse - valkyrja "chooser of the slain") is a female being (protection deity) who chooses who may die in battle and who may live. The half of those who die in battle are then taken to Valhalla, a place ruled by Odin. There, the fallen warriors become einherjar (Old Norse for "once fighters"). The other half of those who die in battle are taken Folkvangr (field of people or field of armies) to dwell with the goddess Freya.
