This time  of year I sink into myself (even more than usual) and listen, search, clean out the clutter in my soul and find the words, sounds and images that will be the framework for the coming season.

While mainstream people continue to ignore warnings and follow/believe the garbage being fed them; I find a growing number of restless spirits looking for truth, for something they have lost, for something meaningful.  We have the opprotunity and actually the responsibility to be the strong hand they can grab hold of as they make their way out of the quagmire of garbage around them.

Heathenry holds to a handfull of shared beliefs:

  • Courage.
  • Truth.
  • Honour.
  • Fidelity.
  • Discipline.
  • Hospitality.
  • Self Reliance.
  • Industriousness.

These ideals are the foundation of who we are and we are responsible for who we become based on these ideals.  There are many heathen and pagan groups for every culture and people with their own myths, gods, godesses, heroes and villians.  They are ancient faiths from strong foundations, philosphies and understandings of the universe.  How so much wisdom was lost and ignored over the last 2000 years is hard to understand.  In my opinion it was because of misplaced loyalty.  Instead of holding fast to beliefs, staying loyal and committed to the foundations of kin, folk and tribe; tribe members sold out for a promise of wealth, title and security.

That is our challenge now as heathenry and paganism builds and grows.  May we not forget that we once were searching for truth, for heritage for something that gave us strength and peace in this strange world.  May we not seek to be experts, titled or to have the last word but to always learn, grow and go deeper. May we be the source that helps someone to find their tru path whether it is in Asatru, Voodoo, Hiduism, Celt or any of the many others.  Because you know what?  When you sit down and talk with these other tribes, they have the same desire....to find truth, take care of the earth and honor their ancestors and their heritage.

Hail the gods!  Skol!
